10 ways of eating right, drinking easy for strong, healthy, white teeth.

Everyone wants white, shiny teeth. A bright smile will always be noticed by the people around you. But if you smile and show yellow, stained teeth, it obviously wouldn’t be attractive. That’s why we go to great lengths to obtain white, shiny teeth. But many may not know that the food we eat also has a significant effect on the health of our teeth. You might be surprised to know that there are so many different types of food which can help with the whitening of your teeth. If we choose the right food, it will provide added value in achieving that beautiful smile. Today’s busy hustle and bustle lifestyle makes it much harder for us to brush our teeth and remove food particles after every meal. So it’s a good thing that, aside from brushing, there are certain types of foods and drinks that can help maintain our oral health.

What’s the difference between white and yellow teeth?

Of course, white and yellow teeth “look” different, especially in an era where the color of your teeth is an indicator of how healthy your oral cavity is. But in actuality, the color of our teeth is mostly determined by what is called teeth enamel. The color of our teeth is primarily based upon the thickness of our teeth enamel, which is the outermost layer of our teeth. The thicker the enamel, the whiter are teeth are. The simple truth is that our natural enamel is white in color. It coats the main substance of our teeth, which is naturally yellow. As we age, our teeth enamel thins, revealing the actual color of our teeth, yellow. Therefore, the belief that the whiter our teeth are, the healthier our teeth are isn’t all true.

Let’s take a look at a list of foods that help improve the health of our teeth

1.  Foods that contain strands or threads because these strands will help remove lingering particles of food, actively cleaning our teeth while we chew. The strands in these foods will also help scrub and polish any stains.

2. Green tea contains fluoride which helps strengthen teeth

3. Milk and yogurt because they are high in calcium, a natural element that our teeth are made of

4. Cheese because it is rich in phosphate which helps protect against the growth of bacteria, the major cause of teeth cavities. In addition, phosphate promotes the pH balance in our mouths

5. Fruits high in Vitamin C such as guava, Indian gooseberry, tamarind, and rambutan. Vitamin C can keep our gums healthy and strong

6. Sesame, vegetables and fruits high in Vitamin A such as papaya, tomatoes, and carrots. Vitamin A promotes the build up of enamel, making our teeth look whiter

7.Non-fatty meats contain phosphorus, an essential mineral in strengthening our teeth

8. Broccoli and cabbage are both abundant with Vitamin K which helps in the absorption of calcium

9. Bananas, potatoes and leafy vegetables because they are rich with Vitamin B. This particular vitamin helps restore the soft tissue in our mouths such as our gums, tongue and other oral soft tissue

10.Water, aside from being a crucial substance to our bodies, it is also important to our oral health. Our bodies need water to produce saliva, which is paramount for our teeth. Saliva serves the purpose of reducing the acidity in our mouths, which in turn, reduces the risk of cavities. We often hear that we should drink at least 8 glasses of water per day. However, that is not always the case. Some individuals, such as athletes who spend a lot of time in the sun, need more than the 8 glass recommendation to maintain their health. In contrast, some people need less water. Some elderly people living in cold climates don’t necessarily need to drink as much water. Therefore, in order to know how much water you should drink, you should notice the color of your urine. If your urine is a dark color, it means that you need to drink more water.
