Can enamel produce by itself?
Tooth easily compared to the layer which has 3 layers. The major structures of tooth are enamel, dentine, dental pulp (arranged from the outer to the inner).
Enamel is the hard pulp which cover the outermost part (white color). Enamel perform a major duty to protect the inner structures. After establishing the enamel, the cell which is the creator will be vanished and unable to reproduce to substitute.
Dentine is the hard pulp which created by the dentine cells (which located at the joint between the dentine and the dental pulp). Such cell is alive to create dentine in order to substitute or to support.
Dental pulp is the pulp which contains of various cells, blood vessels, lymph vessels and nerves. Dental pulp has many functions duties. When there is any tooth decay, there will be germ, microorganisms stain and tooth structure demolition. The demolition of enamel can not reproduce because there is no original cell exists. But the dentine can partly repair itself in order to protect the spread of the germ and toxic substances. If we can delete the infection, the tooth decay will be ceased. There will be a new dentine production but the new dentine will occur connected to the tooth decay portion. There is no new portion to substitute the destroyed portion.
If the tooth decay is just started, the dentist may give you the intensive fluoride and receive from the toothpaste which can reverse the mineral back. If the tooth decay reached the the dentine layer, the repair of the destroyed tooth structures is to restore tooth with all kind of methods. The pulp of our body has the mechanism to self protect, protect the spread of germ in certain levels. If the tooth decay reach the nerve cavity, it is necessary to cure the root canal directly.
